North on I-25
Concrete contractor in Thornton, CO
Thornton is about 19 minutes from our base. We pour driveways, patios and walks on 1950s brick ranches and on the newer streets to the north.
Original Thornton and the newer north
Thornton was farmland until 1953, when builder Sam Hoffman laid out the first fully planned community in Adams County and named it for Governor Dan Thornton. The city incorporated in 1956 and now stretches north past Eastlake and Todd Creek.
From our base we take I-270 and I-25, about 19 minutes. Thornton Town Center, Larkridge and the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center are local landmarks, and I-25 crosses the city twice.

- Front walks, stoops and porch landings
- Stamped patios and walkways

- Tear-out of cracked or settled concrete
What does a 1950s brick ranch need?
Original Thornton is single-story brick ranches built by Hoffman’s F&S Construction. He reserved land for schools, churches and shopping, and the houses came in set models, so a block tends to look alike.
The city commissioned a pattern book for the neighborhood, with homeowner suggestions and design examples. It is worth a read before you change the front of a house.
Driveways, front walks and stoops from those years are the usual jobs. A plain broom finish with clean joints suits that brick. Stamped concrete fits a back patio or a walkway better.

Eastlake and Todd Creek are newer ground
Eastlake began as a railroad village and now has an RTD N Line station at 124th Avenue. Todd Creek, with its golf course, and the subdivisions around it came later.
On the newer lots the builder pours a driveway and a front walk, and associations or metro districts in these subdivisions usually want to approve a patio or driveway change first. Get that approval in hand and show it at the walkthrough.
Clay, frost and the first winter
Thornton sits in the Front Range clay belt. Water makes the soil swell, which is why driveways and patios heave and crack. A prepared base and reinforcement hold the slab together, and control joints placed to spec decide where it cracks.
Our process stays simple: measured walkthrough, written scope and price, base prep, the pour, then a clean site. After the pour, hold off on deicing salt through the first winter and use sand for traction.

Good to know
Concrete in Thornton: questions
Should I patch or replace a cracked driveway on a 1950s house?
Hairline cracks can wait. Settled slabs, wide gaps and heaved corners usually mean the base has failed, and replacement usually outlasts a patch. We walk the driveway, measure it and put the scope and price in writing.
When can I use deicer on a new concrete driveway?
Concrete contractors generally advise skipping deicing salt through the first winter, because new concrete is still drying out and the surface can scale. Sand gives you traction without the risk.
Do you pour stamped concrete in Thornton?
Yes: stamped and decorative patios, walkways, steps and driveway patterns. Thornton is about 19 minutes from our base, and we walk and measure the site before quoting.
