Stamped and decorative

Stamped concrete in the Denver metro

Stamped patios, walkways, steps and decorative driveways with the look of stone or slate and the strength of a poured slab.

The look of stone, poured in one piece

Stamped concrete is poured like any other slab, then pressed with textured mats while it is still workable. Color goes into the mix or onto the surface, and a release agent leaves the darker tones in the grooves that make it read like real stone.

You end up with a patio, walk or entry that looks like ashlar slate, cobble or flagstone, without hundreds of separate pieces to settle and shift. A border in a contrasting pattern or color frames the edges and ties the work back to the house.

Timing matters more on stamped work than on any other pour. Once the concrete is ready, the crew has a short window to stamp the whole slab evenly, so the layout, forms and mats are all planned before the truck arrives.

The details

Keeping a stamped finish looking right

  1. Sealed after the pour

A sealer brings out the color and protects the surface. Resealing every few years keeps it looking fresh.

  2. Joints hidden in the pattern

Control joints still matter on stamped work, and they are placed along lines in the pattern where they are hard to spot.

  3. Grip on steps and walks

On steps and walkways, a textured pattern and a grit additive in the sealer help keep the surface from getting slick.

Good to know

Stamped concrete: common questions

Is stamped concrete slippery?

It can be when wet if the wrong sealer goes on. On steps and walkways we choose textured patterns and add grit to the sealer where it helps.

Does stamped concrete crack?

Any concrete can crack. Good base prep and joints placed in the pattern keep cracks controlled and hard to see.

Can you match a pattern I saw somewhere?

Send us a photo. We can usually match the pattern and get close on the color, and you will see samples before anything is poured.
